Seriously have no idea where to begin about Miss Lacey so I guess I’ll just start from the beginning. I was making a list for her med box while she stays with our dad this weekend just Incase something were to happen so that’s the order I’ll go in.
Miss Lacey is my twin sister. We were born premature at 26-27 weeks. She always jokes that I kicked her out first that’s why she is disabled. She loves to call me little sis because she is 3 minutes older. She weighed in at 1lb 15oz.
Lacey acquired hydrocephalus due to intraventricular hemorrhage at birth, it’s a bleeding into the brains ventricular. The brain injury causes cerebral palsy and optic nerve damage. She is legally blind and has nystagmus (involuntary eye movements.. her eyes are always moving back and forth).
She had a shunt placed in 89. It malfunctioned in 94 and was moved from the top of her head to behind her ear. A shunt relieves pressure from the brain caused by fluid accumulation (treating hydrocephalus). Her tubing was replaced in 04.
She wears 2 AFOs (ankle/foot orthosis) that compensate for the weakness. Also she now wears a brace on her right hand to help her be able to use it more.
Person. Not diagnosis.
Now that you understand a little of what her conditions are let’s get into the fun stuff!
Lacey is a daddy’s girl and obsessed with cowboys, horses and semi trucks. She actually knows a good amount about them.
She loves to eat tacos, and steaks. Kyle is always making her “cowboy” food as they both like to call it.
Lacey really wants to drive, and if I remember correctly she has tried and hit something.
She is a complete smart ass. Her jokes need some work but her and Kyle are in the process of writing a book… called dumb joke book. This is almost an everyday topic. Because jokes are told in almost every conversation had.
Now when you ask her if she drinks alcohol she gets a cowboy voice and a smirk then says “only ol douls.”
Lacey calls me at 5 am on our birthday just to make sure she wishes me well wishes first. Her short term memory isn’t the best, buttttt her long term. Holy! She will tell you a story from 20 years ago, along with the date. Also she remembers every birthday and anniversary there is. No joke!
You guys! She loves to arm wrestle and though her right side is weak her left kicks some ass.
She’s almost always laughing and in high spirits.
Miss Lacey graduated at 20 from a school for the blind.
She moved into basically a group home with 24hr staff.
With some things not going as they should she moved in with Kyle and myself in September. We also share guardianship of her. (That was a pretty big moment for me.)
When a flower doesn’t bloom you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.
I absolutely can’t wait for you to get to know her, I’ve spent 28 years and counting with her and she never fails to amaze me.
